Past Projects

December 19th, 2011
Following are some of the major projects that we have undertaken in the past:

  • Our members took lead roles in organizing three relief missions in Aila affected Sundarbans. We were one of the first few to reach many villages/islands in remote places like Satjelia, Santigachi, Chargheri etc (in fact our first relief mission reached within 5 days after Aila devastated the whole area).
  • As Parivaar’s (www.parivaar.org - a humanitarian service organisation, based in South 24 Parganas, West Bengal) objective is aligned towards our goal of serving the orphans, poor kids and the kids from tribal and with highly vulnerable backgrounds, we wished to support Parivaar in building the Siksha Sadan (a campus dedicated for girls). Our members have collected and contributed around 2.5 lacs towards this noble cause.
  • Some of our members supported the day-to-day operation of a tutorial class for first generation learners in Bongabari, Purulia district, through Kalyan and R.K.Mission for 8 years. The project is now getting enough funding to sustain. Hence, from Tapassya, this project is on hold since 2009, as we have shifted towards projects of greater social impact.
  • We have built a concrete building for the girl students (at Purbachal Ananda Foundation, Barjora, Bankura – www.pafngo.org) with an expense of Rs 1,75,000 in 2008. Prior to this building the little girls had to stay in a mud house with tin roof. During high storms, the girls used to sit with ropes tied to the roof, so that it didn’t get blown away. The deplorable condition in which those kids were staying, brought tears to our eyes, and this decision of constructing this building “Narayani Bhavan” was one of the first decisions taken when Tapassya was being founded.
